In this age of mass tourism, long distance tours
have become high-end travels, which are all about leisure time and money-thanks
to the ridiculously high fuel prices that only soar. So what about a common
biker; just sit at home and be lost in obscurity? No way, this is where short
distance tours serve the purpose. Recently Pakistan Bikers Club organized a
short tour from Lahore to Hiran Minar (Minaret of Antelope) near Sheikhupura,
so a common biker may not be isolated from such healthy activities. The Moghal
emperor Jahangir built Hiran Minar or the Minaret of Antelope in 1606,
constructed in the honour of hunting one of his pet deer. Unique for its
construction, the minaret presented us with the opportunity to take some
beautiful photographs. The tour was not only some fun time riding but also it
gave the opportunity to some of us who had not been to this memento of
antiquity before. Such historic places give us a look into the past, something
I have always cherished.
I have been doing tours on my bike with a small
group of friends in the past and some solo rides as well, but this was my first
one with the PBC where I had the opportunity to ride alongside fifteen other
bikers riding in a line, observing the traffic rules displaying no hooliganism
at all. Some youngsters were doing their maiden out-of-city tour on bike but
they showed a sense of responsibility on the road, something we rarely see with
the youngsters on motorbikes these days. It was impressive.
